West Bank Mississippi River Levee Slide Repairs, Concordia Parish LA
Project Details
Notice to proceed was issued on 9/10/2025, and Team Tarpan went straight to work! We served as the Prime Contractor and self-performed 100% of the site-work.
This contract involved slide repairs caused by rapid water recession after a high-water event, which led to a failure. We brought crews and equipment to excavate a half-moon shape in the levee slope, removing failed embankment to a stockpile. We then treated the excavation with lime (the first time done under a USACE construction contract), then placed the treated embankment back into the levee section in lifts to the required elevation. This required extensive planning and communication between the contractor and government personnel. The project also required extensive internal coordination and tight scheduling to test the lime and coordinate delivery to the site. Tarpan’s ability to manage all these moving parts was well planned and did not require client prompting to perform this work per the specs. Once we developed the “flow,” the project went so smoothly. We were on site for approximately 49 days and repaired levee slides, with NO lost-time incidents/accidents. Final CPARS evaluation from USACE stated: “The contractor remained committed to timely completion by diligently working to ensure the final product performed as intended. The contractor's management of this contract was very good.” We are proud to highlight this project; it was unique, and the results repaired the integrity of the entire MRL flood protection system.
