On May 24, 2023, Tarpan received a contract award from the USACE Memphis District for the System 6 Mississippi River Levee Resurfacing Project. We served as the Prime Contractor and performed 100% of the Sitework, Quality Control, and Safety. The project’s scope of work was to supply and place 4”-6” of gravel to resurface the crown of 16 miles of the mainline Mississippi River Levee in Phillips County near Helena, Arkansas. Tarpan made a specific equipment purchase for the project, the DoMor “Rock Box” spreader; it worked like a champ. We produced a precise end product that met specifications. The gravel resurfacing protects the levee crown and provides reliable, safe transportation on the levees for maintenance and flood-fight teams. By October 2023, our team completed all work; we placed, spread, graded, and compacted 26,092 tons of 610 Crushed Limestone and logged 2,559 man-hours with no lost-time accidents. At the conclusion of the project, our client, USACE, commented: “Tarpan is a high-quality firm with exceptional personnel. I would gladly work with them again.”
